Mainstream-O-Meter
The Mainstream-O-Meter is a small web application which calculates how mainstream the top bands of a www.last.fm-profile are by comparing their listener count to that of the biggest bands.
Last.fm offers web developers an API which offers access to a lot of the data Last.fm collects. My Mainstream-O-Meter takes advantage of this by pulling data about user's most listened artists and these artists listener counts on Last.fm to calculate, how Mainstream a user's favourite bands are.
When I launched the application to the public a lot of people were interested in this and my shared server quickly gave up on the amount of requests
A few months later I had to completely quit the service because my hosting provider (Lunarpages) didn't want me to continue this service on a small shared server
Since then I have received a lot of mails from people who offer hosting the application and right now I'm in the process of rebuilding it so it doesn't congest as many ressources. It will go live in a few days.
